UKIP Conference pictures by Andrew Edwards. Still a lot cheaper than Derek Bennett! Double click on the pics for a closure look!
We had intended to post this earlier but the Dale/Sinclaire business needed our full attention.
The conference was quite well attended with over 600 on the first day. The second day saw roughly 400 turn up. The average age was 65 – 70!
We are pleased to note that Farage is still spitting feathers after Bannerman made a speech criticising him. See: LINK
Gerard’s speech was rather good. However, he refused to discuss his leadership bid.
The highlight of the conference was when Trevor Colman proposed a motion that future membership of any pan-European group should be put to a vote of the ordinary members.
Tim Congdon spoke strongly in support of this motion. Farage opposed the motion. We are pleased to note that members overwhelmingly voted in favour of Trevor's proposal.
Derek Clark – who chaired the motion - was clearly less than pleased. His feelings on having to announce the decision can be easily imagined!
Farage left the stage in a huff and joined a group of supporters nearby. He was clearly shocked at losing the vote. He was heard to say:
'they have just lost me 1 million Euros over this'
Even some of his supporters seemed upset upon hearing this. We can’t think why! Farage has only ever been interested in the money. His patriotism is dictated by the size of his MEP wage and how many slots he can get on the TV.
A line of conversation than began about Farage's declining influence................
On Saturday, the NEC called an emergency meeting. We understand that they met to discuss Trevor Colman’s motion.
Here is what Dr Edmond had to say on his blog:
The existing pan European EFD group of which UKIP is a member is disintegrating. New EU parliament groupings may therefore soon be formed. There was a hugely encouraging vote on Saturday at a conference session debate to put UKIP's future membership of any pan-European group to a vote of the ordinary members. Tim Congdon and Trevor Colman spoke strongly in favour of this motion. This obviously resonated with the ordinary members and there was an overwhelming vote in favour of the motion despite the pathetic attempts by the debate chairman, and leading EU beneficiary, Clark to thwart the will of the ordinary members.
This news cheered me up greatly. Ordinary UKIP members have made a start in reasserting democracy in the party. They are the salt of the Earth and I am proud to know them. It will do UKIP the world of good to separate itself from Liga Nord and the other EU fascist groups. It opens the way I hope for Nikki to return to UKIP. I hope that now UKIP will move forward concentrating on UKIP policies designed to benefit the people of our islands undistracted by the malign fascist influence of EU money and parties like Liga Nord, the party that sponsored the Lisbon Treaty in the EU parliament!
The second motion that was carried was that each region should elect one member to the NEC. This is excellent news. It means that all UKIP members will have an NEC representative that they have elected to address their concerns to, and whom I would expect to do as MPs currently do, reply to their constituents communications, report the action they have taken and the response from the NEC. It is another huge and long overdue step in restoring democracy in UKIP. Well done the ordinary members of UKIP!

A full report on Nikki's fringe meeting to follow.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI do rather think that very clearly the idiotic Mike McTrough's cover has been well and truelly blown by Brian Lee!

Many of us may be misguided, but the above puerile attack indicates that the UKIP membership is likely to gain very little benefit from having elected the poster to the NEC.
What Mr McGough fails to realise is that many of the contributors to this forum might still be active in, or promoting, UKIP if they had not lost all faith in the people who are running it.
May I briefly add that I merely alluded to Dr. Eric Edmond's blog about himself which he had clearly been told and believed - for the record a lie is a deliberate untruth as with the frequent lies of Mick McTrough and his lies to cheat his colleagues and the decent fork in UKIP who are so very distanced from the self seeking, self enriching trash that form its leadership and the scum that are its parasites - such as McTrough.
