UKIP: Geoffrey Collier on The Press, the Police, and public confidence.

Geoffrey Collier is a long standing and well respected member of UKIP. His recent comments on UKIP, originally published on the British Democracy Forum, are worth repeating:

The squalid stories about the News of the World, should rightly be seen, as they are, about the nature of our political establishment. On being elected prime minister, David Cameron appointed a former N.O.W. - Andy Coulson - as his press adviser. The Daily Telegraph reports to day that News International had released to the Police new evidence that Mr Coulson. when NOW editor, had condoned payments from his staff to members of the Police. Does the receipt of those payments tell us as much about the NOW as the police themselves. That must be a very small step from payments being made by politicians to the police. What confidence can anyone have in government being conducted in this social climate?

What can we do about this situation? In the 1980's the membership of trades unions who engaged in criminal behaviour would, after a conviction in the courts, suffer the sequestration of their union funds. This should be the model for dealing with corrupt newspapers. The size of a newspapers readership is largely irrelevant. Providing that they attract advertisers newspapers can be distributed free. The London Standard, and the Metro, and a host of other documents more than testify to the truth of that claim. It is to the credit of the Ford Motor Company that they have suspended advertising in the NOW, and others like Npower are reviewing their policy. This is sound business judgement and good examples to other companies which make the gutter-press viable. I suggest that following any conviction for a serious offence, a sur-charge should be imposed on the newspapers advertising revenue. That would be defensible, understandable. enforceable and equable.Certainly it would be less difficult to enforce than changes in censorship legislation.

Newspaper like to boast that they are the Fourth Estate of the Realm; they are no such thing but they like to think that they are. It is important that newspapers are separated from the Executive and subject to the laws of the Legislature. Taking journalists of a low calibre to the heart of government is not without problems as Cameron may now be discovering.

At a more 'parochial level' UKIP has not always been served well by the statutory authorities. Call centres from which money disappears in large amounts. Donations circulated through various private companies without apparent justification, and schemes like Wine World, lotteries and public appeals from which it is claimed not a penny was raised, or the amounts declared suspiciously small. The Electoral Commission provided the name and number of a Metropolitan Police officer with the suggestion that action in respect of one of those activities should be taken. Little seems to have happened. The unconventional relationship of the Ashford Employment Ltd. and a NEC member cannot be deemed satisfactory. Much of what is wrong with Britain is wrong at the top. Ukip was founded to challenge that what exists; sadly it is now very much part of the problem.

We now have appointed at public expense a Mr Greaves who claims to be a barrister and specialises in International Law. Further claims to his credit involve appearances before the International Court at the Hague. That Court has no evidence of him appearing in any capacity. Furthermore he does not appear on the Roll of Bar members who are currently practising. Perhaps Mr Greaves would welcome an opportunity be explain this matter to satisfy the curiosity of the membership. The Registries at the Inns of Court may have knowledge of the gentleman. Burke's Peerage and Debretts were very obliging when one member of UKIP staff claimed aristocratic antecedents. Perhaps history will repeat itself.

Bloom's PEP lands UKIP in trouble

Nigel and Godders driving the EU funded UKIP Mobile to disaster

How ironic it was to see Nigel Farage line up with the other professional Euro-politicians, Martin Shulz, Daniel Cohn-Bendit, et al, with a grin on his face as he waited to shake hands with Donald Tusk, who introduced the Polish presidency of the EU.

If any evidence were needed that Farage has gone native, this was it.

Tusk congratulated the Group Presidents, of which Farage is one, as he referred to the importance of the European Parliament in EU integration.

Not such a good week for Godfrey Bloom, however.

Godders dropped a real bloomer when he boasted about how he has abused funds from his Pan EU party (PEP) in order to buy a printer for his office, which he uses for UKIP business. This, we are told, is one illustration of why UKIP should join a PEP.

We can confirm that a disgruntled UKIP member in North Yorkshire, who was present when Bloom made his boast, has reported the matter to OLAF.

Bloom's popularity in his region has waned. This foul-mouthed jumped up little pipsqueak has burned his bridges with his local members - whom he refers to as his 'gibbons'. Rarely seen sober since he sold his business, following a severe reprimand and fine from the FSA for dodgy business practices, Bloom has truly lost the plot.

And yet some in UKIP STILL can't understand why they're not taken seriously on the doorsteps of Britain!

Q. Do we really pay over £84k + expenses/allowances for Farage to engage in such juvenile ‘Rag Day’ stunts?

The argument about UKIP MEPs joining a pan-European party rumbles on.

The 'Yes' campaigners continue to lie through their back teeth. Some of the arguments that are being put across in favour of the PEP proposal are either very poorly informed or downright untruths.

Domestic parties cannot use funds from these parties, and that is the end to it. Should they be foolish enough to do so then they would run the risk of being forced to repay the money.

Whether or not we agree with the rules is immaterial. This is taxpayer's money, and the rules must adhered to, otherwise we will have even more of the corruption and abuse of public funds that UKIP professes to be opposed to. If UKIP MEPs start to misappropriate this PEP funding then they really will become part of the problem rather than part of the solution.

It is quite obvious that that the 'Yes' campaigners are becoming increasingly desperate. Anyone who has to resort to using Wolfman McGough as a spokesman needs referring to the nearest mental health clinic!

Wolfman McGough lying through his back teeth. No change there!

And how we laughed at the latest argument by the 'Yes' men. Joining a PEP would mean that UKIP MEPs could buy loads of new printers. Selling out your country and your principles for a printer! You couldn't make this up!

The printer is a BAD example for the YES campaign to use because it's a complete red herring.

Our MEPs get about 4,000 euros a month office allowance each, which can be spent on things like risographs anyway.

The North West region has two risographs but no PEP; there's no shortage of money available for MEPs to buy office equipment. A few other regions have a risograph, and probably paid for by EU money through the office allowance.

The YES campaign should focus on things that we can't/aren't doing without it.

No NEC meeting today. It was cancelled. Farage couldn't take the chance that a certain story involving Annabelle Fuller and a Tory MP would be raised by at least one member of that not so august body.

The situation regarding the wording of the Question to be put to members has descended into absolute farce.

I was told last Monday by a very reliable source that the current version of the Question is;

"Should the UK Independence Party's MEPs join a European Political Party as defined under Regulation EC2003/2004?"

This had not been announced officially because some members of the NEC had not been contacted.

Consequently, the debates at Birmingham and Liverpool went ahead based on the original version of the Question as printed in Independence.

What a plonker, what a liability! And who brought him on board? Yep, good old Nigel!


Why do some UKIPPERS still believe that Monckton would be the ideal successor to Farage? The man is an idiot and a liar!

Monckton's OTT utterances, coupled with grovelling apologies when challenged don't help his cause one little bit!

"I have written to Ross Garnaut to withdraw unreservedly and to apologise humbly" .

If he truly believed that the dogma of unquestionable climate change was indeed fascist, why then buckle like a wet blancmange when challenged? Not much of a backbone!

Monckton also said; "What I said about his opinions was unparliamentary and unstatesmanlike". Talk about delusions of grandeur!

It is very unlikely that you will EVER be a parliamentarian - unless you are still claiming to a member of the House of Lords! And never, by any stretch of the imagination, have you ever been a statesman!

Inverclyde by-election

Iain McKenzie took the Westminster seat with 15,118 votes over the SNP's Anne McLaughlin on 9,280. Labour's majority fell from 14,416 at the 2010 general election to 5,838.

The Conservatives took third place with 2,784, the Liberal Democrats polled 627 votes and UKIP was fifth with 288.

UKIP's vote continues to drop. In 2010, Peter Campbell received 433 votes in the constituency.

More recent local elections

Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough - Seabridge: C 557, Lab 497, UKIP 112, Lib Dem 52. (May 2010 - C 1370, Lab 912, Lib Dem 607, UKIP 266). C hold. Swing 4.8% C to Lab.

Once again, UKIP's vote has dropped since last year.

Isle of Wight Council - Binstead and Fishbourne: Ind 428, C 424, Lib Dem 139 UKIP 93, Lab 66. (June 2009 - C 519, Ind 515, Lib Dem 188). Ind gain from C. Swing 1.1% C to Lib Dem.

And in Seabridge seat, Newcastle Borough Council, it was a similar story. Peter Hailstones (Tory) polled 557 votes compared to Labour candidate Colin Brooks who got 497.

UKIP's George Harvey and Lib Dem candidate Hilary Jones trailed in third and fourth place, polling 112 and 52 votes respectively.
