UKIP: More on Lord Pearson's betrayal of UKIP

The backlash against Pearson continues.

More and more UKIPPERS are now waking up the fact that Lord Pearson has betrayed UKIP. Pearson has turned UKIP into a Tory pressure group. He has made a mockery of UKIP and ANY claim that UKIP was an alternative to the old party system.

The calls for him to resign are growing stronger. However, the last thing we need is the return of Farage as leader. He fully supports Pearson' s recent actions and has been egging him on at every opportunity.

The rumours are growing that Farage is seeking to return as leader after the GE. Don't let him fool you again. Farage is as guilty as Pearson when it comes to the policy of UKIP standing aside for Tory and Labour candidates.

Remember that when it comes to putting your cross against his name in any future leadership election.

Vote Conservative, says UKIP leader

UKIP supporters in the Wells, Somerton & Frome and Taunton Deane constituencies have been told to vote for the Conservatives instead – by the leader of UKIP himself.

Lord Pearson of Rannoch, who leads the UK Independence Party, has asked the electorate to choose the Conservatives over his own UKIP candidates standing in these constituencies.

Lord Pearson said: "Although of course I want as many people as possible to vote UKIP nationwide, there are a few marginal constituencies where I do not want us to prevent committed Eurosceptics from entering the House of Commons, where they will fight for our common cause.

"These are three such seats, and so I must ask the electorate to vote for the Conservative candidates, David Heathcoat-Amory, Annunziata Rees-Mogg and Mark Formosa. They have not asked for this help, but it is part of my national strategy. I am trying to put our country above party policies.

"I also respectfully ask any Eurosceptics who are unhappy to vote Conservative in these seats not to waste their vote by abstaining, but to vote UKIP instead."

The candidates standing for Wells, and Somerton & Frome respectively, are Jake Baynes and Barry Harding. On hearing the news Mr Baynes said : "Every election the Tories ask us to trust them, and every time we give them power they take us further into the EU.

"I am absolutely fuming about what Lord Pearson is asking, I think he is doing great damage to our party. I was never a Conservative voter so to ask my constituents to do so now would be wrong.

"So many people have come up to me and given me support for standing up to Lord Pearson. We are a growing party and this is not helping."

Mr Harding said: "Lord Cameron made a very astute offer to David Cameron in January and said he would stand down UKIP candidates if Cameron gave a solid promise to hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty.

"He did not do that and we believe the deal was not done.

"We are offering a real choice to the electorate. For me to do anything to support the Conservatives would be against real democracy in Somerton and Frome.

"The Conservative Party favours Turkey joining the EU, that would give 24 million Turks the right of abode in the UK. In my travels throughout Somerton and Frome, I have found that is unacceptable to most folk here.

"There is no way I can support the Conservative Party if they support such a policy.

"As far as I am concerned they are as much the problem as they are the solution."

And this is from The Yorkshire Post:

UKIP supporters angry at tactics

By Tom Palmer Political Correspondent

THE election campaign tactics of the leader of the UK Independence Party, Lord Pearson of Rannoch, have upset activists who are angry that some voters are being asked not to support them.

Lord Pearson is actively campaigning on behalf of known Eurosceptic candidates, such as West Yorkshire hopefuls Philip Davies, Janice Small and Alex Story, by either not putting up a candidate against them or calling on the electorate to vote for them ahead of Ukip.

He said the party was satisfied the would-be MPs were opposed to Britain's membership of the EU, but admitted during a visit to Shipley yesterday that local party activists had halted plans to allow Brigg and Goole candidate Andrew Percy, and Leeds North East candidate Matthew Lobley to stand unopposed.

There are also reports that members of Ukip's South West Regional Committee were at odds with Lord Pearson after he wrote to local newspapers urging voters not to support his party in three Somerset constituencies.

Lord Pearson told the Yorkshire Post that he did not want to split the anti-European vote, saying that only if voters "could not bring themselves" to vote for the MPs he was supporting should they then vote Ukip.

Ukip's Euro MP for Yorkshire, Godfrey Bloom, moved to calm the unrest and said he believed Lord Pearson's work with the candidates would be rewarded should they be elected.

He said: "What is above my pay grade and the pay grade of the activists is whether Lord Pearson has done any deals.

"I would be amazed if there isn't something so that should the Tories win power, these MPs will be able to fight for the anti-Europe cause.

"I would not be surprised if, as David Cameron has made such a mess of this campaign, that if the Tories fail and he is sacked, some of these people cross the floor to join Ukip."

The party is fielding 560 candidates, its best hope being former leader Nigel Farage's attempt to win Buckingham against the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow.

Lord Pearson said: "I have never made any secret about this strategy, and stood on this platform when I ran for the leadership."I will continue to put our country above party politics."

If UKIP was a pressure group for the Tories, then I could understand Lord Pearson's rather bizarre strategy, but it's not.

The clue is in the name of the party; INDEPENDENT.

You can't be independent if you keep running home to mummy to ask her to do your washing.

Lord Pearson is bringing humiliation on his UKIP canditates and that is the WORST thing you can do in politics.

Humiliate an individual or nation and you are in BIG trouble.

Germany felt humiliated after the 1st WW and we all know where that led.

Irrelevent you might say. No, not if there is a lesson to be learned.

No disrespect to Lord Pearson or Nigel Farage, but UKIP is really torn between the devil it knows and well ...the devil it knows!

I won't say you can't win, because in life there's always a way ...

As long as there is a WILL.

The problem is, if so many UKIP folk become discouraged and disenchanted then you lose the very people who if they had the will and motivation could come up with a strategy to deal with this problem ...

Look further DOWN the chain and see who COULD be on the way up.

Perhaps therein, lies your answer.

I suspect the reason Nigel Farage is supporting Lord Pearson in all his dotty doings is strategic.

Nigel Farage KNOWS that Lord Pearson's actions will anger UKIP members, cue "Lets get Lord Pearson out and bring Nigel Farage back to the helm.

I strongly suspect Lord Pearson has been led by his friend to the slaughter.

In this respect, I feel quite sorry for Lord Pearson. It's bad enough being dotty, but when your friend and collegue is supporting and encouraging you in your ridiculous behaviour, then that is quite sad and below the belt.

I have a feeling that Lord Pearson considers himself a good judge of character and is therefore quite trusting. I don't think he realises he has been 'Set Up' by Nigel Farage.

Lord Pearson's demise, is Nigel Farage's days of glory again.
