We can now give more information on the split in the UKIP ranks that saw Nigel Farage voting differently to the rest of the UKIP MEPs.
The vote was on a proposal to amend legislation in order to reduce the administrative burden on small businesses. There was overwhelming support for this from British businesses, and from self-employed individuals.
The Earl of Dartmouth led UKIP's support for the amendment, and found himself standing against Farage.
"I never voted in favour of a Commission proposal before, and I'm not going to start now", Farage told MEPs.
Nigel - the proposal was to amend already existing legislation. It is not new legislation. Did your advisers not explain that?
Nigel - the amendments are now subject to approval BY THE MEMBER STATES! Did your advisers not explain that to you?
This blog has been critical of Dartmouth in the past, but thank the Lord there is now a UKIP MEP capable of independent thought, who is prepared to stand up to Farage, and who is able to carry the other MEPs with him.
